Short peer review on the Mediafruitcakes blog by Fay Tulling

The attraction to the very creative name of the blog ‘Mediafruitcakes’ has made me decide to write this week’s assignment, a short peer review, about this blog (http://mediafruitcakes.wordpress.com/). The blog is from my fellow students of Media & Culture; Stefan, Thierno, Elise and Kim.

I’m wondering what they have been doing this whole course!

The first thing that strikes me is that their lay-out, as well as their name, is very professional and clean. The lay-out makes you curious about the blog, but it stays subtle. By doing this readers will keep their focus on the information of the article, rather than the lay-out. So, my compliments for the professional lay-out! The way that their articles are posted give you a good overview of the subjects, meanwhile the ‘read-more’ option provides you the opportunity to quickly enter the whole article. The blogs keeps it’s simple overview. The language in the articles itself is not to academic, which make it easy to read for almost everyone. Another good point of this blog is that they introduce their selves in one of their first articles, with more than just a name and age, making the blog a bit more personal and interesting.

But… Every victory has it’s dark side! So, here are some bad points of the blog, as well as some recommendations. The first thing that I want to mention is that their name ‘Mediafruitcakes’ implies a blog about media, but all the posts are written. By using pictures, video’s or other multimedia-applications, their blog will come more to life. Another point is that for older posts you have to click on the button ‘oudere berichten’. This button is very easy to miss out. A good alternative would be if there would be a link to all the posts on the site of the page. This way readers could easily navigate through all of the interesting articles.
At last; my compliments for your work and devotion. It’s interesting to see how every group have used their blogs to try to answer the questions of the professionals.

Good luck to all of you during the last weeks of this course and the final paper!
